Creating a Natural Ecosystem
In addition to our practice of hydroponics at New Braunfels Hydroponics, we’ve also ventured into the practice of aquaponics, which can be defined as putting fish to work. Letting the fish work naturally (eating and producing waste) produces the perfect fertilizer for growing plants.
- Fish eat and produce ammonia
- Beneficial bacteria convert ammonia into nutrients
- Plans absorb the natural fertilizer
- Water is continuously circulated through the system
With our integration of aquaponics, we create a natural ecosystem, relying on the solid waste from fish that converts into complete plant food. This is a truly natural process where fish do not suffer from the application of pesticides. Our aquaponics practice uses the best of all the growing techniques, utilizing the waste from one element to benefit another – mimicking a natural ecosystem.
This process represents the natural relationship between water, aquatic life, bacteria, nutrient dynamics, and plants that grow in water environments.
